GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The 9th Circuit ruled in favor of the City of Sparks on April 22—affirming a district judge's dismissal of a lawsuit by a private detective who claimed his First and Fourth Amendment rights were violated during a GPS tracking investigation linked to Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. The court found that he did not present a valid legal theory for a privacy claim and noted that any amendment to the complaint would have been futile.  KTVN
  • The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected private investigator David McNeely’s suit against Sparks police—who had disclosed his name during a GPS tracking case involving Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. City Attorney Wes Duncan said he is pleased with the ruling, and McNeely must now reveal his client’s identity by early May.  Reno Gazette-Journal
