  • The northern NV EmployNV Business Hub Healthcare Career Fair is held today at 11:00 a.m. at Reno Town Mall on South Virginia Street for job seekers in Washoe, Storey and Lyon Counties to meet employers and receive career guidance—employers may also conduct on-spot interviews and hiring.  KTVN

CRIME NEWS

  • Christopher McDougal pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter for hitting and killing Judge Larry Hicks—he is serving 30 days in Washoe County Jail.  KTVN
  • Sparks Police warned residents of a surge in phone scams where callers pose as law enforcement to demand immediate payment for false legal obligations—officials noted that scammers sometimes manipulate caller ID—and urged locals to hang up suspicious calls and verify with the agency.  KTVN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation released its March 2025 report showing a state unemployment rate of 5.7%—a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from last month. The report lists local rates with Las Vegas at 5.6%, Reno at 4.7%, Carson City at 4.5%, Mineral County at 9.6% and Elko County at 4.3%.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assembly Bill 198 — known as Lizzy's Law — passed unanimously Tuesday to boost safety standards for inflatable devices after 9-year-old Lizzy died in a Reno bounce house accident. The bill requires operators to hold proper licenses and insurance, perform regular inspections, and monitor wind speeds, with the new rules set to take effect at the beginning of 2026.  News4
  • On Tuesday, the Nevada Assembly passed the Right to Contraception Act and Family Planning Services Act with a 42—0 vote to protect access to birth control methods; the bill now advances to the Senate for further review.  News4
