- ➤ The Sparks Police Department and local partners will hold a prescription drug take-back event on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at several locations across Northern Nevada—offering residents a safe way to dispose of unwanted medications. KTVN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 70-year-old John Herbaugh was convicted of trafficking meth and cocaine after a February traffic stop on Interstate 80 when a K9 unit found drugs and cash + his sentencing is scheduled for June 26. KTVN
- ➤ Sparks Police arrested William Hill at a hotel on Victorian Avenue on April 17th for violating his release conditions and facing felony charges—assault with a deadly weapon and ex-felon possession of a firearm—and he was booked into Washoe County Jail without bail. KTVN
- ➤ A 70-year-old man in Washoe County was found guilty of drug trafficking after a sheriff's deputy stopped his truck on Interstate 80 near Robb Drive in February 2024 and a K9 unit detected drugs, with a search finding a pound of methamphetamine and 4 grams of cocaine—his sentencing is set for June 26. - ➤ Sparks High School teacher Carla Gonzales, a 52 year old from Reno, was fatally stabbed over the weekend + WCSD provided support for students and staff after the incident. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maintenance crews from the City of Sparks will fill potholes on Vista Boulevard, Prater Way, and Sparks Boulevard this week. Officials ask drivers to slow down near the work areas — Public Works Maintenance Manager Mark Anderson warned — to keep crews safe. KTVN
- ➤ At Tuesday's meeting, Washoe County staff proposed adding $1.3 million to the library budget to cover a $4.5 million gap after a failed tax renewal—commissioners directed the finance team to gather more details and allow the library board to review its budget ahead of a special meeting on May 20.
