ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office identified Robert McCarthy—a 40-year-old man experiencing homelessness—whose body was found near El Rancho Drive in Sparks after a fire on April 14.  News4

CRIME NEWS

  • A 25-year-old Incline Village woman died from multiple stab wounds at her home on Tanager Street on April 10 — Manuel Lopez-Gomez, arrested in California, was extradited to Washoe County on Wednesday on an open murder charge.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • Washoe County Sheriff's Dept. child crime detective Kellie Wright spoke with the RGJ about protecting children from abuse and her ongoing investigations to hold abusers accountable.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • ICE's Reno office deported 53-year-old Federico Garcia-Cegueda—convicted of murder with a deadly weapon and sexual assault—after he was held in Lovelock.  KTVN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The official Reno Rodeo poster titled 'First Night of the Cattle Drive' was unveiled by President Jim Neil who selected artist Cathy Trachok to capture this year's theme, 'A Cowboy State of Mind' — the Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West will run from June 19th to June 28th. A limited run of 250 signed and numbered prints will be available for purchase from the Reno Rodeo office.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said on April 18 that his office released a new Community Feedback Survey to let residents share their views on safety and trust. The short survey—created with the University of Nevada Reno—takes 10 minutes to complete and is completely confidential.  News4
  • On Thursday, the Nevada Assembly approved AB 346 by a 23—19 vote to allow physician-assisted suicide for terminally ill patients who are mentally capable, despite Gov. Lombardo’s threat to veto the measure. The bill must now pass the Senate.  FOX Reno

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A public input meeting for the Sierra Reflections Common Open Space development was held on April 17 to talk about a plan to build 940 homes and parks on 760 acres between Pleasant Valley and Washoe Valley — east of I-580 and near U.S. 395A. County staff will review the comments and check the plan against local codes before the planning commission holds a public hearing.  KTVN
  • A permit filed on April 12 shows a Home2 Suites by Hilton extended-stay hotel will be built at the Outlets at Legends at 1050 Scheels Drive in Sparks. The new 66,700-square-foot, four-story hotel with 109 rooms—developed by Sparks Hotel Partners LLC—adds a third option on the west side near Legends Bay Casino and Galaxy Theatres.  Reno Gazette-Journal
