CRIME NEWS

  • Manuel Lopez-Gomez was extradited from California and booked at Washoe County Detention Facility on April 16 for an open murder charge in connection with the April 10 homicide of a woman in Incline Village—authorities are continuing the investigation.  KTVN
  • Police announced today that Luis Ibarra, 44, was arrested—after an 18-month investigation into the October homicide of Sparks resident Yadira Cano, 40, who was found with multiple stab wounds at her Boise Drive home—following a welfare check prompted by concerned family members.  News4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents may drop off unwanted household items at Lockwood Landfill during Free Dump Days, which run from April 17th to 19th and will run again from April 21st to 26th. The event is free for residents (Reno, Sparks, unincorporated Washoe and Storey County) at 2700 E. Mustang Road (open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washoe County Library Director Jeff Scott resigned voluntarily from his position Wednesday night.  KTVN
  • The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office released a 20-minute video—Fatal Dose: The Rise of Fentanyl in Our Community—that explains how the fentanyl crisis affects local families and individuals. The video features firsthand accounts and outlines new programs such as addiction treatment and mental health support in the detention facility.  KTVN

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Reno-Sparks housing inventory for existing single-family homes jumped by 43% in March, marking the largest gain since the pandemic as closed sales and new listings rose by 15% and 18% compared to last year. Median sale prices held steady near $570,000 — Sparks saw a 4.8% increase to $550,000 while Reno dropped 1.6% to $605,000, indicating balanced market activity.  Reno Gazette-Journal
