COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The SPCA of Northern Nevada reopened its adoption center on Monday after completing upgrades that included HVAC repairs, a new pet dental suite, and improved play yards; the center was open daily — 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  KTVN
  • Riverside Farmers Market announced that Nevada’s WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program is defunded for 2025, cutting crucial fresh food access for local families. The market will run special hours on Sunday from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.—a change linked to the upcoming Ninja Run event.  KTVN
  • Nearly two dozen Easter egg hunts and events are planned this weekend across Northern Nevada—including a hunt at Carson High’s field on Friday, community events at parks and museums on Saturday, and an Easter brunch with an egg hunt in Sparks on Sunday. The guide details both free and ticketed activities at venues such as sports fields and ski resorts—offering local families many ways to celebrate Easter.  Reno Gazette-Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washoe County School District faces a $7 million deficit for next school year—flat state per-pupil funding and rising costs from inflation and contractual raises have driven the shortfall. Declining enrollment is expected to reduce funding by about $10 million further—recent cost-saving measures have not closed the gap as the district finalizes its budget.  Reno Gazette-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority announced it will pay towing fees for families who had their cars towed after parking in a private lot during the volleyball tournament held from April 11th to April 13th. Affected drivers have already picked up their vehicles—official Ben McDonald said—and reimbursement will be automatic once the towing company submits the bills.  Reno Gazette-Journal
