ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A semi truck rolled over on I-80 near Mustang around 1:30 a.m. on April 7 and hit three power poles, which led to the right lane closing and delays—officials suspect the driver fell asleep and report no injuries.  News4

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested 35-year-old Nicholas Loving last week in connection with the death of his 5-year-old daughter in Cold Springs after deputies found her with multiple injuries on April 3, and a bail hearing is set for Wednesday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m.  News4
  • Sparks Police are asking for help in identifying suspects in two store thefts+ one occurred at Scheels on March 29 at 9 p.m.+ the other took place at Walmart at 5065 Pyramid Way on April 2 at 1:50 p.m.  KTVN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Raley's donated a Captain Planet Foundation Project Learning Garden to Sparks' Alyce Taylor Elementary School last week—third graders helped refurbish old garden beds and plant herbs, vegetables, and seeds. Local education and city leaders attended the ceremony and two other schools also received similar gardens—bringing hands-on science and nutrition lessons to students.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washoe County unveiled an interactive website called Washoe County Checkbook—letting residents view revenue and spending for 24 departments and 267 divisions with annual payroll details. Commissioner Clara Andriola said the site will build public trust, and Commissioner Mike Clark will examine it further at the commission meeting today—raising questions about its delayed introduction.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • Today at 2:30 p.m. the Nevada Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a 34-minute session on the case involving Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve and former Washoe County Commissioner Vaughn Hartung—alleging their rights were violated when a private investigator used a hidden GPS tracker on their vehicles. The court will decide if the anonymous party who hired the investigator must be revealed.  Reno Gazette-Journal
