- ➤ Jacob, a local boy who battled brain cancer, will soon travel to Australia after Make-A-Wish granted his wish with help from northern Nevadans. KTVN
- ➤ Volunteers renovated the Gallimore home by clearing the yard, repairing a damaged door and rebuilding the deck to help the retired couple move safely. The project—led by Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada partnering with the Home Depot Foundation—also added extra security with a new screen door. KTVN
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Sparks Fire Department crews are responding to an exterior structure fire at a residential building near Prater Way and Marian Way with westbound Prater Way closed while firefighters conduct mop-up operations and begin investigating the cause. News4
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ EmployNV is hosting several hiring events for northern Nevada job seekers. A virtual interview for security guard positions will be held in Reno on April 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while on April 8 the U.S. Postal Service will interview mail carrier candidates at the EmployNV hub in Sparks at 2281 Pyramid Way from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and a healthcare career fair will take place in Reno on April 23 at the Reno Town Mall at 4001 S. Virginia Street from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. KTVN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Truckee Meadows Water Authority reported that as of April 2 the Tahoe Basin snowpack reached 109% of average, keeping the region drought-free. Senior hydrologist Kara Steeland said late March storms improved water runoff and advised residents to conserve water as summer approaches — a positive sign for future supplies. FOX Reno
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ USPS began adjusting mail delivery on April 1 to save costs and improve service—some Nevada areas may see slower or faster mail delivery. The postal service plans to cut 10,000 jobs and will make additional changes on July 1 to refine its delivery standards. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ NDOC Director James Dzurenda testified before lawmakers on Thursday that Nevada spends $60 million a year in overtime due to officer shortages, which created a $50 million budget gap. He said a staffing study started in 2024 and due in June will likely reveal a shortfall of over $100 million — a gap that may force program cuts like in-person education. Reno Gazette-Journal
