COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 13th annual Waffles and Wishes event is happening today & Make-A-Wish reported that more than 250 kids in Nevada are waiting for their wish.  KTVN

CRIME NEWS

  • Rowan Lombardi, a 31-year-old Sparks man, was arrested last night after crashing his car near Pyramid Way and failing a breath test—he has been booked into the Washoe County Jail and charged with DUI as a first offense.  KTVN
  • The Sparks Police arrested 20-year-old Hayden Rogers after he sped away on his dirt bike when officers tried to stop him on March 26 at Wingfield Hills Road and Rolling Meadows Drive — he was later booked into Washoe County Jail.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Automatic voter registration legislation went into effect on April 3 and residents may soon receive a notice in the mail. The change will simplify the process for eligible voters.  KTVN
  • State Sen. Dina Neal introduced Senate Bill 199 to require AI companies to register with the Bureau of Consumer Protection and set policies to stop hate speech, bullying, bias, fraud, and misinformation. The bill (if passed) will bar law enforcement and teachers from using AI to make police reports or lesson plans, form a group to advise on AI in education, stop property managers from using AI to set rent, and require a study on how many jobs could be at risk.  Reno Gazette-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Truckee Meadows Community College announced a new women’s volleyball team that will debut in fall 2026 and play home matches at the Joseph P. Ayarbe Gymnasium—budget approval came in December and a national coach search will begin immediately with tryouts scheduled before spring.  News4
  • Thursday night at Greater Nevada Field the Reno Aces beat the Tacoma Rainiers 8-2 thanks to good hitting by Tim Tawa—who drove in three runs—and Jordan Lawlar who had three RBI. The team will take the field today at 6:05 p.m. for another game against the Tacoma Rainiers.  KTVN
