CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Reno man, Jeferson Solares-Galicia, was arrested on March 31 on suspicion of attempted murder and leaving the scene of an accident—charges stemming from a hit-and-run crash on March 22 near 19th Street and Prater Way in Sparks that seriously injured a bicyclist—and is now in custody. Reno Gazette-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ In March, the Reno Police Department did safety operations in school zones and downtown pedestrian areas to address community feedback about unsafe driving — six officers issued 28 warnings and 65 citations to drivers and pedestrians who broke the rules. The operations used funds from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety to enforce road regulations. KTVN
- ➤ The Legislature is considering Assembly Joint Resolution 1, proposed by Assemblymember Natha Anderson, which would let voters decide if a home’s tax value resets after a sale. The resolution must pass this session and again in 2027 before going to the ballot in 2028—if passed, it could boost revenue for schools and local services. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ Today, Sigal Chattah took the oath of office as the District of Nevada's interim U.S. Attorney and will lead a team of more than 100 federal prosecutors and support staff (in Las Vegas and Reno). KTVN

- ➤ Nevada Donor Network and 35 first responder agencies held a news conference Tuesday to launch the third annual Silver State Heroes campaign for Donate Life Month—urging residents to register as organ, eye and tissue donors to save lives. The campaign aims to boost donor registration and raise awareness about how many lives can be helped through donation. KTVN
- ➤ Nevada joined a multi-state coalition in a lawsuit against the federal government for cutting public health grants—state agencies warn that these cuts have plunged them into chaos. The suit alleges nearly $12 billion in grants were terminated illegally, which could cost the Nevada Public Health Laboratory $35 million. News4
- ➤ Washoe County School District and Northern Nevada Public Health will offer after-school immunization clinics for students aged 9 and older at several schools in Sparks and Reno from April 8 to May 29—families will be contacted via Connect Ed and must bring parent and student ID along with insurance cards to verify coverage, with uninsured students receiving shots free of charge.
