CRIME NEWS

  • The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office identified Marcus Gifford as the suspect who died by suicide after a Reno police chase on March 22—he was linked to an attempted armed carjacking on Silverada Blvd and a kidnapping in Roseville, commandeered a vehicle in Sparks, and crashed in Reno as officers tried to force his surrender.  News4
  • Sparks Police looked for an unlicensed motorcycle rider who fled Wednesday morning near Wingfield Hills Road and Rolling Meadows Drive before 9:45 a.m.—he was last seen heading northbound on Pyramid Highway.  KTVN
  • The Washoe County coroner identified 28-year-old Marcus Gifford from Roseville who stole several cars and led a police chase on March 22 in Sparks before crashing into a tree and shooting himself.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NDOT is planning new projects and extending work on the North Valleys project through spring as crews pave and place concrete on US 395 between Golden Valley Road and McCarran Boulevard—crews will soon begin final phases on Pyramid Highway with overnight lane reductions, start reconstruction along Pyramid Way in Sparks, and replace seven I-80 bridges while resurfacing US 50 along Tahoe East Shore in early May; work on I-80 between McCarran and Keystone continues without traffic changes.  KTVN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northern Nevada HOPES warned that colon cancer rates among younger people are rising and experts stressed that preventive care is the best way to reduce risk. A wind advisory is in effect today from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area—residents should secure loose outdoor items as strong southwest winds may cause travel challenges and power outages.  KTVN
