Students from Western Nevada College provided handyman services to local seniors, a program that filled a need — giving students a chance to give back to the community in Sparks.

Hot August Nights, a 40-year local tradition, invites volunteers to help with the event.

Two open houses are held Sat, Mar. 28 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Tue, Mar. 31 (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.) at 1425 E. Greg St. in Sparks + roles require a 16-hour commitment.

Today a major career fair at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center features nearly 60 employers including Tesla and Panasonic (from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.), organized by Northern NV Jobs (supporting local job seekers).

Nevada Dairy Farmers is offering four $5,000 scholarships for UNR juniors and seniors studying agricultural or veterinary science; students must apply by March 31 with proof of enrollment and a cover letter to be among the winners announced on Earth Day.
