GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assembly Bill 375, introduced by Assemblymembers Steve Yeager and Bert Gurr, had its first hearing Monday in the Legislature and would let licensed businesses deliver mixed drinks with tamper-proof seals. If approved, the bill will add a 50-cent surcharge (to fund DUI checkpoints and alcohol treatment programs) and name Picon Punch Nevada's official state drink while giving towns or counties the option to impose stricter rules.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • The USDA cancelled funding for the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program and the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program in Nevada—ending more than $6 million in support for Home Feeds Nevada that helped food banks and over 265 local farms secure fresh produce and meats. The cuts have also affected tribal food programs and left state officials uncertain about support for low-income communities.  Reno Gazette-Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Reports from late 2024 showed new Reno-Sparks apartments took longer to hit 90% occupancy as rising supply pushed vacancy rates to 12.2%—well above the balanced range. Average rents held mostly steady at $1,633, and more units under construction may add to the trend.  Reno Gazette-Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • March Madness is underway as Sparks fans can tune into the NCAA men's basketball tournament starting Thursday at 9:00 a.m. on CBS, TBS, TNT, and TruTV — the Final Four and Championship games will air exclusively on CBS on April 5th and 7th.  KTVN
