COMMUNITY NEWS

  • RTC will offer free rides for St. Patrick's Day starting at 4:00 p.m. Monday and ending at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday. A high wind watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday evening — gusts up to 65 mph may knock down trees and power lines in parts of Nevada and California.  KTVN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washoe County School District began building a new bus yard to replace its 50-year-old facility—this $33 million upgrade will add fuel tanks for 750 buses, an expanded garage and better security while operations continue, with work expected to finish fall 2026.  KTVN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nevada Senate Committee held a hearing on a bill to create residency opportunities to address a shortage of primary care physicians—research from the Nevada Health Workforce Research Center shows the state ranks 48th in the nation per 100,000 people.  KTVN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nevada has not reported a measles case as of Thursday morning, but health officials note that vaccination rates in kindergartens have dropped from 95% to 91.8%—a decline that may leave the community at risk. Officials plan to urge parents to follow vaccination guidelines and monitor the situation closely.  Reno Gazette-Journal

  • Residents at Reno Suites in the former Harrah’s Reno received a seven-day notice to vacate as new owners Madison Capital Group plan to close the hotel on March 21 and start renovations on March 31 — locals worry that moving guests every 28 days to dodge tenant rights adds to housing uncertainty. Many are scrambling to secure a new place as they adjust to sudden changes in their living arrangements.  Reno Gazette-Journal
