- ➤ DMV investigators arrested a man suspected of odometer fraud after an online complaint led them to find that he bought a 2003 Honda Element with over 260,000 miles, altered its title and mileage record—selling it to a victim with a falsified signature. KTVN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Religious vaccine waivers in Washoe County schools more than doubled since 2015, with affluent schools showing higher counts compared to nearly all Title 1 schools—where exemptions remain under 10 students. The district issued over 2,015 waivers this year after granting 910 in 2015, raising concerns as measles outbreaks persist. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ Washoe County School District will break ground Friday morning on a $33 million project to modernize the Getto Transportation Yard at 1850 Kleppe Lane. The new facility will boost safety and reliability for more than 20,000 students—while the project is built in three phases to keep bus services running. FOX Reno

- ➤ Washoe County Commissioners asked for an investigation after the Reno Gazette Journal reported that the IT chief worked just five days a month on site and lives in Southern California—Commissioner Clara Andriola said staff records and remote work policies must be reviewed to address local economic concerns. - ➤ The Nevada Wildlife Commission debated proposals to regulate killing contests that offer cash prizes by setting a season and requiring special permits and licenses for participants. The Commission will review the language at its May meeting — this effort marks the first time the state has taken steps to control these contests. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ State lawmakers heard testimony on Monday about Assembly Bill 223, which would let tenants file a verified court complaint if landlords do not fix habitability issues like broken air conditioners, mold, and pests within 15 days + the measure would allow tenants to withhold rent in escrow to avoid eviction while awaiting repairs. - ➤ Nevada lawmakers are considering Assembly Bill 119 which gives the state attorney general power to investigate paramilitary activities+ seek court orders and impose civil penalties if someone is harmed. Sponsored by Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager and presented by Assemblymember Erica Roth to the judiciary committee, the bill aims to stop disruptive armed groups while protecting lawful acts like guarding property.
