EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washoe County School District Superintendent Joe Ernst announced his retirement on March 11; his final day will be July 7 after 32+ years in education. He was hired in 2024 to lead the district. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ The student-led robotics team tested a new robot for a competition on Mar. 11 at a local school — a project boosted by a donation from the Gillemot Foundation. The team aims to refine its skills for upcoming contests. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washoe County Commissioners voted three to two on Mar. 11 to reverse the planning commission’s denial of the Sierra Reflections project in Pleasant Valley, letting it move forward (despite community pushback). KTVN
- ➤ Crews worked overnight to repair a water main break along USA Parkway and are now fixing the asphalt on the travel lanes north of Innovation Drive – work aimed at restoring smooth traffic flow. The project is ongoing and may affect local travel. KTVN
- ➤ Overnight road work blocked all lanes on the West Golden Valley Road on-ramp to U.S. 395 starting Wednesday night and will conclude March 16 at 5 a.m.—motorists are advised to take alternate routes. KTVN
