COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Blue Carpet Treatment block party will see five local businesses celebrate significant milestones — each marking a key moment in their growth. The event offers residents a chance to witness local achievements up close.  KTVN
  • Residents in Reno, Sparks and Washoe County are invited to complete the 2026 Parks and Recreation Service Plan Feasibility survey available online and by phone at 888-801-5368. The survey will be open until March 13 and takes about 10-12 minutes to finish.  KTVN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nick the Greek + The Breakfast Club will expand with new locations in Sparks and Reno, offering additional meal options for local diners. Plans are underway and opening dates will be shared soon.  KTVN
  • Southwest Airlines announced a new nonstop flight between Reno-Tahoe International and Nashville International that will begin Oct. 1. The flight will depart Reno at 9:40 a.m. & Nashville at 1:25 p.m. as it aims to boost regional business and tourism.  Reno Gazette-Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Papa What You Cookin’ owner William Lyons joined Chris Murphy on Thursday, Feb. 12 to showcase soul food in honor of Black History Month, adding a flavorful nod to local tradition.  FOX Reno

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washoe County School District superintendent Joe Ernst reported a midyear self‑evaluation showing improvements in attendance, campus safety, and student engagement. He noted a drop in campus violence and progress in safety upgrades – plans for adding five instructional days for kindergarten spark debate.  Reno Gazette-Journal
  • TMCC plans to open a new fire rescue training center plus it will offer instruction for first responders to meet growing community demand.  KTVN
  • Local high school students are organizing the SciVenture STEM Fair, which will take place at The Discovery Museum on Mar. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interested participants must register by Feb. 16 to compete for cash prizes and hear keynote speaker Taylor Wilson.  KTVN

  • Residents in Sparks, Reno, and Washoe County can share input on a regional parks service district through an online survey for the 2026 Parks Service Plan Feasibility Study; survey responses are accepted through March 13.  City of Sparks

  • Renown Health and Nevada Donor Network host a Donate Life flag-signing ceremony today to honor donor heroes (registration drives run 10 a.m.-noon at two Renown centers) after three living donor kidney transplants marked a significant step in local transplant care.  KTVN
