- ➤ Governor Lombardo announced Nevada is joining the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship Program, wherein a donor can get a $1,700 tax credit for donations that fund K-12 scholarships and cover school costs + the state will manage the program starting January 1, 2027. KTVN
- ➤ The Nevada System of Higher Education voted 8—5 to raise tuition for UNR and UNLV by 12 percent over three years as underfunding challenges campus operations; NSHE offers an option to delay the increase until fall 2027 if legislative funding materializes. KTVN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers on Sparks Boulevard will face 24/7 lane closures between Baring Boulevard and Prater Way starting Monday, Jan. 26 as RTC crews widen the road until May to shorten the construction timeline. Motorists should plan extra time for delays. KTVN
- ➤ Starting with the January 2026 filing period, businesses must file and pay Sales and Use taxes by the 20th day following each taxable period due to Assembly Bill 594 (if the 20th is on a weekend or holiday, payment moves to the next business day), prompting more timely tax collection. KTVN
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Nevada Health Link announced 104,286 enrollments during the open enrollment period from Nov. 1 to Jan. 15, reflecting a nearly 6% drop from last year & showing that almost 70% of enrollees actively shopped for plans. Reno Gazette-Journal
- ➤ Providers and parents in Nevada say UnitedHealth Care subsidiaries have recently limited ABA therapy benefits for autistic children, sparking concerns over access to necessary care and higher costs for some families.
