  • The Domestic Violence Resource Center offers free monthly life skills classes to help local residents build practical skills. The program aims to empower community members through supportive, hands-on learning.  KTVN
  • A pedestrian pathway on Sparks Blvd between Prater Way and O’Callaghan near Springland Drive will be closed temporarily Monday, Jan. 19 for about two months while crews work — pedestrians should use a detour via Pullman Drive to Union Street then to O’Callaghan and Springland Drive.  KTVN

  • Northern Nevada's only Ethiopian restaurant will soon close as its owner told Jaden Urban (in a recent interview) that she feels both relieved and devastated about ending its run.  KTVN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The film Mimics, shot in Reno, will premiere at the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Director Kristoffer Polaha joined Kim Burrows via Zoom to discuss the premiere details.  FOX Reno

ECONOMY NEWS

  • With grocery prices remaining elevated, shoppers in the Reno-Sparks area can save money by signing up for rewards programs offered by local chains. Programs offer digital coupons, fuel points, and free delivery from retailers like Smith's, Costco, Walmart, and Safeway.  Reno Gazette-Journal

  • The Washoe County School District announced a settlement agreement with the state's education department to support students with specialized needs—details will be shared soon.  KTVN

  • Traffic improvements are moving along at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center – crews work to ease congestion in the area.  KTVN
  • The U.S. Forest Service is recruiting wildland firefighters and offering on-the-job training. Applications will be accepted soon & local candidates are encouraged to join efforts to protect nearby national forests.  KTVN
